Local Attractions

Along with its abundance of museums and galleries, including the new International Slavery Museum and The Tate Gallery, Liverpool offers its visitors wealth of cultural experiences. We are famed for our waterfront which is a hub for fashionable eateries, shops and wine bars in the Albert Dock, which is also home to the Tate Gallery and Beatles Museum, not forgetting the famous Mersey Ferries and International Cruise Ship Terminal.

In the southern corner of the city centre you will find the distinctive Metropolitan Cathedral and the neo-gothic architecture of the Anglican Cathedral. It is here that the Georgian Quarter of the city is located, boasting ostensibly the greatest number of Georgian buildings outside of London. Along with an array of restaurants and bars, it is in this area of the City Centre where you’ll find the Philharmonic hall; a fine example of Art Deco architecture and home to the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Other attractions such as the Everyman Theatre and The Fact Centre are also located in this vicinity.

The Centre of the City really is a shoppers and clubbers paradise. Our brand new shopping complex; Liverpool ONE is a huge 1.65 million sq ft of shopping and leisure, which includes 160 shops, more than 20 bars and restaurants, a fantastic 14 screen cinema and a 5 acre park.

This district of the city is also home to Matthew Street and the World famous Cavern Club, which hosts a 3 day music festival every August Bank Holiday. Many other nightclubs and revelries are dotted around the centre, just follow the crowds!

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre you will find a variety of other places of interest, including Croxteth Hall, farm and Country Park, the magnificent Tudor Speke Hall, our Football Stadia, the Echo Arena along with arty Lark Lane, located just a short walk from the Solna Hotel. Liverpool is also close to North Wales and historic Chester and the breathtaking Lake District. Whatever you want to do, Liverpool has it all to offer

Liverpool Museum - Liverpool - 2.08 miles
Liverpool Museum is the largest of the National Museums & Galleries on Merseyside and is one of the UK's finest multi disciplinary museums. These important and diverse collections cover archaeology, ethnology and the natural and physical sciences. Special attractions include the award-winning Natural History Centre and the Planetarium. Liverpool Museum is currently being transformed as part of National Museums Liverpool: Into the Future, a £40m development programme that will see the museum double in size. New attractions, due to open late 2002, will include the Bug House and the Treasure House. Some of the galleries are temporarily closed to allow important building work to continue. Liverpool Centre - 2.3 miles
Liverpool is unusual in that it has 2 cathedrals - the gothic anglican cathedral built in 1904 and the modern roman catholic cathedral built in 1967. The city has many fine art galleries including the Tate, Walker and the Sudley Art Galleries. The Merseyside Maritime Museum on the restored water front quays, contains a fine collection of full-sized ships and boats. The City Library is one of England's largest with over 2 million books. Liverpool is also famous for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beatles, Aintree Racecourse - the home of the Grand National and its 2 major football teams. Liverpool is linked to Birkenhead via the famous Mersey Tunnel.

Liverpool Football Club - 3.06 miles
The Reds' history began in 1892 (when Everton had a dispute with their landlords at Anfield) - and what a history it has been. The most successful club in English football, they have won a record 18 League Championship titles as well as six FA Cups, seven League Cups, four European Cups and three UEFA Cups. They have been resident in England's top flight for 1962 and until the emergence of Manchester United they were the dominant force in football, particularly under legendary managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.
